So, you want those awesome weapons but you don't want to grind for coins, and nothing seems to drop for you in instances? Weaponsmithing is a sure fire way to get any kind of weapon you need, guaranteed; the only problem is it takes a LOT of time.
There are a lot of guides out there on how to craft, and most of them say the same thing: do work orders until your fingers bleed. I'm averted to this method and I'll explain why. You have NOTHING at the end of the day. Sure, if you do a ton of work orders, you get a few recipes, but let's face it, with all the mats you shell out to craft them, you could buy the recipes for less.
I take the approach of crafting a lot of ingots at each level, and then making a lot of the same materials. This has multiple benefits:
1. You can maintain your sanity. If you get 1000 ore and smelt it all while you're afk (asleep, at work, taking a shower), then you don't have to stare at your screen running back and forth for hours. If you do work orders without supplements, it takes 10 hours to get from 300-399.
2. You actually have something to show for it at the end of the day. Okay, I get it, those crappy white items never sell, and you can't wear 12 breastplates at the same time, but this is good for other things. If you craft items, you can proc the higher grade of it. Say you make 12 white greatswords, the statistics say you'll get 2 green procs out of it. once you've made all of that stuff, sell the higher quality ones if it's worth it, and DE all of the white stuff. Armor that is white quality can at the very worst turn into a stone that is -2 levels of the armor quality, enchantment stones ALWAYS sell.
So how do you do it?
The same process applies to each 100 levels of crafting
1: Smelt ore. Get 1000 of the ore that you need, 1000 charcoal, and smelt it while you're afk.
2: Make nails. This will get you another 5 points after you've made all the ingots you need, not amazing, but they're basically free points and you'll use the nails to make weapons.
3: Make rods. This gets you another 5 points. Again, this isn't fantastic but it's basically free, and you'll need it later for making all of your stuff to recoup some of your money.
4: Craft Greatswords for 10 points, then craft polearms for 10 points, then craft durable daggers for 10 points. All of the weapons require the same ingredients within their type, greatswords require 40 skill, polearms 50, durable daggers 60, and so on. By the time you've made enough of this stuff to get 30 points, you're probably out of mats, but that's okay because you've proc'd some stuff by this point, and if you DE the items you'll have enough money to cover your losses.
5. You should be at *70 points by now, or close. You have two options from here for how you want to continue:
1a) You can buy more materials to continue to craft items to DE
2a) You can do the work order grind for your last 30 points
Neither of these options are ideal. Buying stuff is expensive, and it's gonna take forever to smelt all of that ore again. Running back and forth sitting at your keyboard for hours isn't awesome either. Pick whichever option works for your budget.
Of course, this isn't going to get you from 00-99 in a skill all by itself, but those last few points can easily be done with a few work orders, and then you end up getting a few (usually) decent recipes, without having to spend hours at the keyboard droning away.
I do recommend breaking up the process a little at the 250-299 phase. You need a bunch of adamantium mats to take your expert test, don't waste your money having to acquire adamantium again.
MACROS FOR WORK ORDERS
You can save those precious seconds when doing work orders with some slick macros. Never look away from your crafting table again so you can click on it right away and run back to it.
This macro will target the profession master that gives you your work orders. This macro is set to target Auminus in Oriel, and engage him to pull up his dialogue box.
/select auminus
/attack
You can do the same for the vendor, to purchase more of the supplies necessary to complete work orders. This is set up for Nakisia in Oriel, change the target to Nakia if you're crafting in Sanctum (not recommended)
/select nakisia
/attack
Work in progress. I will finish this later
